Focus on: women in construction – Emma Oakes
Earlier this year, Sovini Property Services Apprentice Electrician, Emma Oakes was named ‘Young Apprentice of the Year’ at the Merseyside Woman of the Year awards 2018.
Judges praised Emma as “a true inspiration, not only to women in the construction industry but to working mothers and to those around her.” They went on to say “She has earned the respect of her peers and has become a role model in the construction field.”
Emma said “I am incredibly proud to win the ‘Young Apprentice of the Year’ award and grateful to Sovini Property Services for allowing me this opportunity. I am passionate about encouraging more women to start a career in the construction industry.”
In 2016, just 270 of 15,510 of construction apprentices, or 1.7% were female, whilst only 6.8% of engineering apprenticeships were made up of women.
Sovini Property Services and its parent company The Sovini Group, has a fantastic record when it comes to apprenticeships and employment, having been named the UK’s best workplace, and in the top four best workplaces in Europe at the Great Workplace Awards. Sovini Property Services were also named UK Employer of The Year at The CITB Apprenticeship Awards last year.
