Money really does grow on trees for Woodlands Hospice

Sovini Property Services recently came to the aid of Sovini Charity Woodlands Hospice, supporting an environmentally-friendly approach to fundraising.

Every January, Woodlands Hospice collect Christmas trees for recycling from across the Liverpool City Region as a means of raising much-needed funds to support their work with those with life-limiting illnesses. Given an opportunity to collect over 100 unwanted trees from Liverpool’s Winter Festival site at the Pier Head, Corporate Partnerships Manager Hayley Smallman was faced with the challenge of how to physically move and process them.

Fortunately, Antony Payne, Estates Services Manager (Grounds Maintenance & Cleaning) stepped in, providing a team of four to help collect the trees from the site, along with a wood-chipping machine to make light work of the recycling. The wood chips are used by Woodlands Hospice to help maintain Bluebell Woods, a special and peaceful place in the hospice grounds which is enjoyed by patients and their families.

With over 100 trees to be collected from the Pier Head site, Hayley is excited about what this represents for Woodlands Hospice: “We ask for a minimum donation of £15 per tree, so today’s job will bring in around £1,500 to support our valuable work. Since we became a Sovini Charity towards the end of 2025, we’ve found that they always go above and beyond to help, providing solutions to our needs and maximising our impact and reach through their support. We are beyond grateful for their help today.”

Antony and his team were only too pleased to help, saying the job was “a way of giving back to the community, demonstrating real social value through delivering a small job for Sovini Property Services that has a large impact on the work of Woodlands Hospice, the patients they support and their families.”
