Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2022

An apprentice electrician is following in his fathers’ footsteps at The Sovini Group, nearly two and a half decades after his father first began his career as an electrician.

It was 2001 when Andy Bounds found himself taking up the role as an electrician, kick-starting his career.

Little did he know that exactly 21 years later his son, Max Bounds, would follow in his footsteps, joining him at The Sovini Group.

We caught up with the father and son due to understand what working for The Sovini Group means to them and where their passion for a career as an electrician originated from.

Electrical Contract Manager, Andy speaks about his successful career at Sovini so far, Andy said:

“I started with the group operating as an electrician for One Vision Housing in 2010. From there I worked my way up and have since been promoted to Assistant Electrical Manager for Sovini Property Services, Electrical Manager and now my current position as Electrical Contracts Manager”.

He adds:

“Given the first-hand experience I have had of Sovini Property Services commitment to creating opportunities for local people through apprenticeship programmes it was an obvious choice for me to recommend Max to sign up for an apprenticeship”.

Speaking about his apprenticeship programme Max shares:

“I left school in May 2021 and set my sights on becoming an electrician after my four-month placement at SPS. I absolutely loved the trade, my mentor and the wider team. The experience Sovini allowed me to gain cemented my decision to become an electrician. My apprenticeship programme is four years. I know in that time I will learn from the best. I’m thankful to my dad for opening my eyes to the opportunities of progression at the group and within the trade”.

Andy adds:

“There is no limit on how proud I am of Max. He has set his sights high and as he develops through his apprenticeship; I have no doubt he will continue to make me feel immensely proud working at The Sovini Group”.

Sovini Property Services are committed to providing opportunities in the form of apprenticeship programmes. Providing employment and training opportunities in our communities and helping to tackle a skills gap in the trades is our aim. Each apprentice receives external training from a local college, invaluable experience of the trades and a host of benefits, including participation in The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. We’re committed to recruiting additional apprentices every year to follow the path of previous apprentices who have gained full time employment as tradespeople within the organisation.
